Description
The Act 58-47-38 Model DB Hydro-Set Permanent Packer is a hydraulic set one-trip
completion packer, ideal for high volume production in high angle, extremely deviated
wells. The DB Packer is run in on the ACT 47-38 Hydro-Set Anchor Latch Seal Unit which
is made up in the top of the packer via the left-hand square threads on the latch. The DB
Packer requires some type of temporary plugging device such as a shear out plug or
wireline blanking plug located close to the end of the tubing.
Well preparation
Prior to running packer/completion ensure the well is clean by making a scraper run
to remove scale and other materials from the casing wall. Follow scraper with gage
ring and junk basket. Circulate 2/3 of the wells volume with solid free completion fluid.
Casing should have 100% cement bond before running in the well. Never set packer
in casing collar or where milling has occurred. Always set packers in static well
conditions (no fluid or gas movement).
Field Assembly Procedure
Install the ACT 47-38 Hydro-Set Anchor Latch Seal Unit in top of packer wrench tight.
Verify measurements shown in illustration. If an internal pressure test is required remove
(4) brass shear screws and install (4) alloy steel test inserts. Test only in an approved
facility. Drift test entire assembly with 3.828 OD x 18" long drift bar.
Operation
The packer is set by slowly applying tubing pressure. The applied tubing pressure
passes through the ports in the body of the packer and forces the setting piston up. This
setting motion packs off the packing element and sets the lower and upper slips. Pack
off is retained permanently through use of the body lock ring located beneath the lower
slips. Pressure is now slowly increased to 3,000 psi and maintained for 5 minutes.
Slowly increase pressure to 4,000 psi and maintain for an additional 10 minutes. Shear
out Subs should be dressed with a shear value above that which is required to set the
packers. If a wireline blanking plug is used, retrieve using normal wireline procedures.
During the setting operation of the Model "DB" Packer a hydraulic stretching of the tubing
will occur and will result in the tubing being landed in tension. After running the completion
to target depth, install/test tubing hanger, nipple down BOP and install tree. Ensure the
packer is not set in a casing joint.
Release of Anchor Seal Nipple
While maintaining a slight tensile load, approximately 2,000 lbs., rotate the tubing 15
turns to the right at the packer. This unscrews the anchor latch from the left-hand square
threads in the top of the packer.
